A 30-year-old woman, J.P., was charged in connection with a theft which took place at a Meijer in Rochester Hills, Michigan. The woman, originally from Pontiac, apparently attempted to steal over $600 worth of merchandise while driving around the store in her motorized shopping cart. As she was leaving the store, the alarm went off and her cart became stuck in the door.
Responding to the alarm, a loss prevention officer approached the woman and asked if she could see her receipt. Rather than comply with the officer, she instead hit her in the fact and shoved her away. She continued to resist arrest even when the sheriff's deputy arrived at the scene. The deputy asked her to put her hands behind her back, but she instead cursed them and looked like she was about to start a fight.
When J.P. still would not put her hands behind her back, the deputy took out his Taser and told her she needed to comply. When she continued to refuse, he Tasered her and then placed her under arrest. Now, this 400 pound 5 foot woman is being charged with resisting arrest, obstructing a police officer, unarmed robbery, and second degree retail fraud. Her arraignment is set for Thursday and her bail has been set for $15,000.
