Williamston School District Agrees To $685K Settlement In Fatal Wall Collapse

The Lansing State Journal is reporting that a $685,000 settlement has been reached between the Williamston school district and Sherry Corbett of Leroy Township, mother of Gabe Corbett, a 14-year-old high school freshman who was killed last year after a locker room wall collapsed on him.

Gabe Corbett was killed on October 26, 2011 in a boys' locker room at school as he apparently was attempting a pull up on the wall and the wall collapsed upon him. Another student gave information as part of the investigation into the accident indicating that the wall had been in bad shape for several years. An attorney for the district indicated that, had an actual lawsuit been filed, the district would not have taken the position that the accident was Gabe's fault.
