In Michigan, a hit and run accident without injuries is known failure to stop or identify after a property damage accident. If you know or have reason to believe that you were involved in an accident, you must immediately stop, give your name, address and registration number of your vehicle to either a police officer, the individual struck or the driver or occupants of the other vehicle involved in the accident. If you do not own the vehicle you are driving, you must also provide the name and address of the vehicle owner. However, if you reasonably believe that stopping at the scene would result in further harm, you may go to the nearest police department to report the accident. Failing to stop and identify is a 6-point misdemeanor, punishable by imprisonment for not more than 90 days, a $100 fine or both.
