A 16-year-old was arraigned Monday for the weekend shooting of another teen at Great Lakes Crossing Outlets in an ongoing dispute over a girlfriend.
Francisco Rivera of Pontiac was charged in Oakland County Probate Court with one count of assault with intent to commit murder; one count of possessing a firearm while committing a felony and one count of carrying a concealed weapon.
It is being reported by police that Rivera and a 17-year-old saw each other in the parking lot near Burlington Coat Factory about 2:20 p.m. Sunday and started arguing. When the argument became physical, it is alleged that Rivera pulled out a handgun and shot the other teen in the abdomen.
The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he remains. His injuries were not life-threatening.
A prosecutor requested the teen be tried as an adult. He was denied bond and ordered held at Children's Village in Pontiac until a hearing at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Sixth Circuit Court.
