4-Year-Old Mauled To Death By Pit Bull

Posted By Freedman & Freedman || 29-Mar-2012

A horrific tragedy occurred in Texas. Sunday evening, 4-year-old Kylar was outside playing near his Dad as he was cleaning the car. Dad looked up and the boy was gone. The police conducted an extensive search for the boy overnight and into Monday morning but they could not find the boy. At around 10:30 Monday morning, a neighbor found the boy several hundred yards from his home. He was dead. Evidence shows that he was mauled to death by a pit bull kept chained in the neighbor's yard. Somehow the boy wandered into the mostly-fenced yard about a half mile from home. The owner of the dog reportedly owns as many as 10 pit bulls.

This tragedy highlights just how dangerous dogs can be. Dogs of all sizes and breeds, from the stray on the street to a beloved pet, can attack. As the weather warms and we take to the fresh air, bicycling, walking, gardening, our exposure to dogs and dog attacks increases. A dog attack can be frightening as well as extremely painful. You may be left with permanent scars and may require physical therapy and continued treatment or surgery to avoid disfigurement. The emotional trauma associated with an attack can stay with you for life.

If you or someone you love is attacked and injured by a dog, the dog owner may be responsible. Michigan is a strict liability state in regards to dog bites. No matter whether the dog has shown aggressive behavior in the past or if it has already bitten someone before, you may be able to work with an attorney to file a claim against the owner to recover financial compensation for your injuries.

At Freedman & Freedman, your initial consultation is free and we will work on a contingency fee basis, meaning you pay nothing unless we are successful in recovering a settlement or judgment on your behalf.
