MSU Student Charged With Assault

In a story out of Michigan State, a student upset following a break-up with his girlfriend repeatedly called her and followed her leading to claims that he was stalking and harassing her. The harassment culminated with a confrontation at a party where the student allegedly grabbed his ex-girlfriend, placed her in a choke hold and punched her in the chest, his elbow hitting her in the face in the process. The 20-year-old student has been arrested and charged with two misdemeanor counts of assault and battery, a felony charge of filing a false police report and a misdemeanor charge of stalking. A Pre-Trial has been scheduled for October 23rd and a Preliminary Exam is scheduled for October 26th.

Crimes involving assault and battery are taken very seriously in Michigan. In this case, the most serious of the charges facing the MSU student is the filing a false police report charge, a felony that carries a possible 4 year prison sentence. When faced with such serious charges, legal counsel is crucial.
