A brawl got out of hand in Grand Rapids yesterday when a man in the downtown area pulled a knife from his jacket and began slashing at the people surrounding him in the area. According to police, the attacker was aggravated in the midst of a fight among more than a dozen people. The argument broke out at Heartside Park at about 6 p.m. on August 19th, and the cause is not yet known. Police believe that the escalating stress of the environment caused many of the fighters to bicker about various issues. The man who was accused of stabbing others was taken into custody promptly after the police discovered him at the scene of the crime.
He had succeeded in stabling one victim in the leg and slicing another man on the dace. The two stabbing victims were uncooperative when emergency medical personnel came to the scene, and combatted being taken to the hospital. The police say that the victim's injuries were not life threatening. But both needed stitches and recovery time. The troopers are also not sure that they have the correct assailant in custody. They are certain that the man they have in jail as involved with the brawl. The police say that many of the witnesses at the park have different stories about what happened, and it has been hard to pin down who was really at fault.
