Last Friday, 5 people were arrested by the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Department and charged with varying crimes such as unarmed robbery and felony retail fraud. The 2 adults and 3 juveniles had been allegedly going to department stores in the Oshtemo Township area, filling up shopping carts with high priced items and then leaving the stores without paying for the items. Once outside, they fled in an awaiting car.

At around 11:00 Friday night, Wal-Mart security officers recognized members of this group enter the store and begin placing items in their carts. The officers contacted the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Department and deputies arrived on the scene, remaining outside but in contact with the security officers. When the suspects left the store without paying for the items in their carts, the deputies arrested them. The stolen items were recovered and the vehicle was seized.
