Doctor Arrested for Suspicion of Drug Crimes

Investigators in Michigan have arrested a doctor this week on suspicion of drug crimes.

According to the U. S. Attorney's office in Detroit, 53-year-old Oscar Linares has prescribed over 5 million doses of narcotics illegally between 2008 and 2010. In addition he billed Medicare for fraudulent claims, all of which amount to nearly $5.7 million.

Robert Corso, the Special Agent in Charge of the DEA's Detroit Field Division, commented that "This investigation and arrest of Dr. Linares should serve as a warning to any medical professional, that if you unethically prescribe medicine for personal gain, you will be prosecuted."

If Linares is convicted of these crimes he could serve 20 years in prison or pay a fine of $1 million.
